I actually didn't remember anything about this episode from my initial watch other than the major plot points so it was kind of like i was watching it again for the first time, which was great.

I am always wary whenever the x files do follow-up episodes on its most famous villains (i am a noted "kitsunegari" hater), and although I don't think an "irresistible" follow-up was completely necessary, I am for the most part a fan of the way it was handled, plus the direction from rob bowman was absolutely striking, especially in that final sequence.

the scene where scully is fighting off pfaster is so visceral and desperate. I kind of hate that scully is constantly being retraumatized in this show by having put in bodily harm over and over again, but sadly I guess in a metaphoric way it is realistic bc we can never know when trauma is going to resurface in our lives and how it is going to affect us. but it is upsetting to think about how her traumas have compounded on her since the beginning of the show: her pfaster trauma is compounded from duane berry, jerry schnauz from pfaster, and ofc pfaster comes back again just when it seems like she's been able to move on from these traumas (or at least hasn't be retraumatized in that particular way for a while)

it's also devastating that the final scene doesn't really provide scully a real sense of closure, but again it is sadly more realistic. my one complaint with this episode is that I've never really understood orison's connection with pfaster and why they implied that pfaster was a demon, especially with regards to the ending. one of the things that worked so well with "irresistible" was that donnie pfaster WASN'T supernatural at all. he was only a man, but still, as scully says at the beginning of "orison", "just plain evil". scully’s fear that it wasn’t god working through her that made her murder pfaster (the implication being that it was her own innate capacity for evil) i feel like works so much better when pfaster is also just a man. an evil man, but decidedly human

I've been brewing this post for far too long in my drafts, but I need more doomed!Bruce and Jason throughout universes. And it is not even always about the same Jaybin, dying in the warehouse scenarios!

Sometimes Jason is just a kid, who died in front of Batman, who maybe jumped in between Batman and the villain recklessly, to keep him safe, and whose blood stuck under Bruce's nails. His face haunts him in nightmares, still.

In other realities, Bruce meets Jason as a teen, and they never even get to become father and son officially - but they slowly get into each other's lives, until something awful happens, leaving a ghost of a smirking kid stroll behind Bruce's hunched figure for the rest of his life.

Or maybe it is one of these realities, where Jason crawls out of the Alley Crime himself, and manages to become famous in Gotham; the one, where he opens a charity fond, dedicated to people, who fight with the drug addiction. Bruce Wayne is sympathetic of a kid he meets during some of the events, and as they slowly start contacting each other more often, getting closer, he promises himself to protect him. Expect, Batman is late to save Jason Todd from the hands of yet another villain.

It could be the priest Jason Todd that meets bleeding out Batman on the stairs of the church, and who helps him out, for what he later pays with his life. Or they are not really vigilantes in any of these universes - just father and son.

And in some of these universes, they reconcile. In one of them, some of the medics connect the dots that a catatonic boy, who is covered in dirt, calling for his dad, for Bruce is Bruce's Wayne dead son, and try calling him. In another, LoA!Jason with his memory still being in a haze, crosses his path with Batman, before getting dipped in the Lazarus Pit.

But the point stands.

In all of them, Bruce Wayne is too late. In all of them, Bruce Wayne fails to save Jason Todd.

dunno if this has been done yet but: airplane didn’t first become aware of peerless cucumber in the comments of pidw, he first saw peerless in the comments of a different web novel (that perhaps was one of airplane’s earlier works?) and so when initially drafting pidw he was inspired to write a villain just like cucumber bc “he’s MEAN MEAN for no reason, a literature snob, and pretends to be all high and mighty while looking down on others. also likes to kick down the little guy” and boom. sqq was born. cut to years later post-transmigration when sqh just casually drops this info with “lol i always did find it funny how much you hated the guy considering he’s literally based off you”

I so desperately need to see more folks write abt the inherent dynamic of how Cygate is like. a very much mutual, back-and-forth protective relationship. They protect /eachother/ and I think that thats such an important part of it all. Tailgate gets dumbed down a lot but he’s soooo far from stupid or plainly naive, his naivety comes from his optimistic attitude and lack of experience with more extreme situations. But he’s so fucking smart, and hes a stubborn lil’ shit, and he’s gathered every bit of how Cyclonus works and keeps it all in mind for whenever something happens and the guy /needs/ someone who /gets/ him to step in.

The “See, that wasn’t so difficult.” line speaks soooo many words. He’s so fucking patient man, if there’s one thing he has oodles of experience with it’s the passage of time having to be spent for a Good Outcome. That’s sorta what the whole arc of that development was about, showing what /he/ is willing to do. They are equal in what they give and take. They’re anchors for eachother and I NEED more of that it’s like my favorite thing to see in art and writing of them. They’re going to make me so ill i genuinely teared up writing this wtf

thinking about klavier gavin again because i saw someone say that the fact that he's the only prosecutor in the series who wants to find the truth and isn't insanely obsessed with winning like the other prosecutors makes him really boring

and i understand it to some extent when comparing him to other prosecutors but... Klavier Gavin??? BORING????

after playing aa4 i was OBSESSED with klavier gavin and the untouched potential of this guy

he loses his best friend/bandmate, his brother AND his mentor in the span of like a year?? i think??? which is INSANE.

there's something very tragic about klavier, a person who values finding the truth above all else, finding out that two of the people closest to him betrayed his trust and lied to him and used him for their own means AND ARE MURDERERS.

and then his mentor, a person who taught that seeking the truth is what a lawyer should do, gets murdered by a person who believes that winning in trials is the most important thing above all else WHICH IS THE SAME EXACT THING THAT KRISTOPH VALUED AS WELL !!!

this core belief of finding out the truth that klavier has, leads him to finding out about the things that daryan and kristoph did, and even though they are important to him, people he CARES about, he continues to work with apollo to see that justice is served.

and the fact that we don't get to see anything of klavier getting any closure after the events of aa4 makes me insane

we never get to see much of klavier's feelings on what happened or him fully processing the events of aa4 and that one case in aa5 and it makes me soooo upset. i wish he got more than that little cameo in aa5 and that one tiny flashback appearance in aa6.

in an alternate universe, aa4 got a true sequel that fully explored klavier's character, as well as phoenix's, klavier's, AND apollo's relationship with kristoph, and klavier's relationship with phoenix post-aa4, and also a more thought out? (for the lack of a better word) backstory for apollo, and an exploration of the jury system, and a game that ACTUALLY built upon the foundation that aa4 laid out.

and i am forever upset that we are not in that alternate universe.

due to @ecoustsaintmein tags on this post (and the fact that some of those things actually match headcanons i have for eoin) now i am forced to think about eoin mcgonigal being somewhat maybe cursed ??? (hocus pocus style??) and turned into a cat. and ofc due to the cat distribution system this kitten would end up basically imprinting on paddy - paddy, who speaks dog, actually, not cat, and has always thought himself a dog person and certainly not a cat person and maybe he was even on his way to the pound to adopt some lonely pup aND YET now this small ball of fur won't let him keep walking cause he keeps rubbing against his legs and purring so fucking loud he really has to double check it's not an engine that's making that sound :/ and aye, so whats paddy to do if not pick up the damn thing and bring it home with him :/
